IOLS
IOLS stands for Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills a training course that provides leaders with basic skills and information to run a successful outdoor Scouting program.
Who should take IOLS?
The BSA requires that you have at least one IOLS-trained adult on every Scouts BSA overnight outdoor event.
Why should I take IOLS?
You’ll learn how to make camping activities and outings fun. You’ll discover how to keep your Scouts safe and entertained. And you’ll learn how to plan an event that’s rooted firmly in Scouting’s principles. You’ll learn the basic outdoor skills to develop confidence and competence in your Unit’s leaders conducting outdoor camping activities.

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is an overnight training event that introduces parents and leaders to the skills needed to plan and conduct Pack outdoor activities, particularly Pack camping. The training includes campsite selection, outdoor event planning, parent involvement, health & safety, equipment, cooking, and an introduction to camping skills.
All Packs are required to have a minimum of one (more recommended) for any and all overnight events.
Online BALOO Prerequisite Training on my.scouting.org is required prior to attending course. Please bring proof of completion.
Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Participants will works as Patrols at this hands-on training. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. All Troops are required to have IOLS trained leaders and all SM/ASMs are required to have it to be fully trained.
IOLS Orientation is required for all participants and will be held online via Zoom and the Zoom link will be provided after registration.

National Outdoor Conference
The National Outdoor Conference is a biennial event that features speaker sessions, keynote events led by distinguished industry experts, peer-to-peer informal discussion groups, and many other learning opportunities. All participants will enjoy the chance to experience a small part of the outdoor adventures Philmont offers.

Trail To Troops
Trail To Troops (formally known as Webelos Woods) is an event for all Cub Scouts in Webelos and Arrow of Light dens (4th and 5th grades) to come enjoy the hands-on experiences and outdoor fun of Scouting.
Food will NOT be provided for participants except for an ice cream social Saturday evening. Please plan to provide meals for your family or as a pack.
A BALOO trained leader for each Pack MUST be present for overnight camping. All YPT (Youth Protection Training) and cub camping rules per BSA policy must be followed at all times.

Canoe Race
Join us for an exciting weekend of adventure at the 2025 Brazos River Canoe Race, hosted at the historic Worth Ranch! This thrilling event is perfect for Scouts and families looking to experience the beauty and excitement of the Brazos River firsthand. Whether you're a seasoned paddler or new to canoeing, this race is designed for fun, teamwork, and a splash of competition.
The Longhorn Council Aquatics Committee will *NOT* be offering Swim Tests - please email a copy of your swim roster ahead of time or bring a copy to check-in. You will not be permitted to race if you do not have a swim test.

Wood Badge Philmont
*Participants must check-in at Philmont Scout Ranch by 6 PM on September 21st*
Every participant and staff member must complete a Scouting America Annual Health and Medical Record – parts A, B, and C and meet height, weight, and blood pressure requirements upon arrival and be approved for participation by the on-site Philmont medical staff.

The Longhorn Council Membership Committee meeting gathers Unit and District Key 3s, New Member Coordinators, District Membership Committee members, and Council Membership Committee members to align efforts on how to grow membership in the Longhorn Council. Attendees share best practices, review progress toward goals, and collaborate on strategies to recruit and retain families, and to find new ways to introduce non-members to the Scouting. These meetings are a platform for exchanging ideas, addressing challenges, and fostering connections across all levels of Scouting.

Fall Fam Fest

This event is FREE for all families who joined Scouts this calendar year.
In the outdoors, your family has opportunities to acquire skills and have fun together. You can have new experiences and complete challenges that you may have first thought were beyond your ability. We want to help you start that journey today.
Come join us for our Fall Fam Fest and take part in family activities together with us. With 12 locations spread over the North and Central Texas area, we hope one of them works for you. This particular location is for Denton, others can be found at www.longhorncouncil.org/calendar
Each event will have a unique lineup of Scouting Activities such as archery/shooting sports, outdoor cooking, physical fitness fun, outdoor crafts, family games and so much more.
Fall Fam Fest is geared towards families of youth from K - 5th grade. Registration today is for the entire family to come join our activities and see if Scouting is a fit for you.

Climbing Instructor Training
Rock Climbing Instructor Course
Unlimited enrollment, and preregistration are required.
These classes are designed to certify adults to lead rock climbing and rappelling activities for single and multi-unit activities. Includes a Tower and Certification Class that covers the SR2 Tower.
The course is held Friday evening through Sunday on the dates listed on the flyer. Check in at the SR2 Tower (not at Hermit’s Cave) camping area at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch. The fee includes all meals from breakfast on Saturday to lunch on Sunday. Please bring something for a cracker-barrel Friday night. Plan to arrive early and be prepared to start class no later than 8:00 PM on Friday, as the course will begin promptly. We will try and dismiss by 5:00 PM on Sunday afternoon. You will not need to make a camp reservation. All registrations must be prepaid. After registering, participants will receive the course information and an outline of knots participants are expected to know on arrival for the class. As of 2015 the required course manual for climbing courses is BSA’s new Belay On, the new climbing/rappelling and COPE manual. It is only available for download.
Tower Instructor Course
Unlimited enrollment, preregistration required.
These classes are designed to certify adults to lead climbing and rappelling activities for units at the SR2 Tower. The Classes will end at 6:00 PM. Please bring a sack lunch and lots of water/drinks/snacks. You will not need to make a camp reservation.
Re-certification Courses: Tower Instructor & Rock Instructor. For currently certified instructors.
The Climbing Re-Certification Courses are held at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch. Both the Rock Instructor and Tower Instructor recert Courses start at the Climbing Tower. Anyone who has completed either the Climbing Instructor or Tower Instructor training may renew their training by demonstrating proficiency on that topic. The course is from Saturday only from 8 AM till approximately 12 noon. Be sure to bring a lunch, lots of water, and gloves. You will not need to make a camp reservation. Renewal Courses cover the SR2 Tower
All Participants & Staff need to have Medical Form Parts A & B completed and on file with the unit leader at the event.

Score-O
Join Scouts BSA, Venturers, Sea Scouts, Explorers, and adults for an exhilarating day of orienteering at Score-O! Whether you're racing to win or just for fun, this event has something for everyone. AOL Dens are welcome to attend with a Troop. With challenges for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced, it's no wonder Score-O is one of our most popular events.

JOTA-JOTI Jamboree
Scouts must be 13 years or older to sign-up. For your safety and wellbeing, all participants between the ages of 13 and 18 are expected to inform and involve a parent or guardian in their JOTA-JOTI experience
Jamboree-on-the-Air (JOTA) is an annual Scouting event that uses amateur radio to link Scouts around the world, around the nation, and in your own community. This worldwide jamboree requires no travel other than to a nearby radio amateur’s ham shack. Many times the hams will agree to set up at a Scout event. There are many ways to get your Scouts involved in JOTA.
Jamboree-on-the-Internet (JOTI) is an annual Scouting event sponsored by the World Organization of the Scout Movement. This event utilizes the internet and the numerous devices that are used to get online, from your home computer to iPad tablets to mobile phones, to link Scouts from around the world. JOTI participation can help fulfill some of the Citizenship in the World or Digital Technology merit badge requirements!

University of Scouting
The University of Scouting is a leader's learning adventure! It is an action-packed, fun-filled single day of supplemental training where you choose the classes you wish to take. Classes are led by experienced volunteers and professionals who will help you enhance your ability to deliver a fun and exciting program to the Scouts.

Calling all adventurous souls and dedicated leaders! Are you ready to take your Scouting journey to new heights? Look no further than IOLS (Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills) and BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation). Prepare to embark on a transformative learning experience that will empower you as a Scout leader like never before!

USA Archery Level I Instructor Course
Those wishing to run Troop and Venture Unit archery activities and to become an approved Archery Merit Badge Counselor, will need to complete the USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Certification or above.
The class will start at 8:00 am at the Archery Range. The Practical class is a busy, hands-on 4.5 hours. We will break for a short lunch and continue BSA Shooting Sports policy, LHC Archery Policy, and how to conduct the Archery Merit Badge including arrow making and string making. This will take an additional 2 hours.
There is a three-step process to becoming a USA Archery Level 1 Instructor. One, register and complete the USA Archery Level 1 on-line Instructor course ($40). Two, register for the USA Archery Level 1 Practical on the USA Archery website (no cost). Three, register for Practical on the Longhorn Council Training page, and attend the LHC USA Archery Level 1 Practical at a LHC camp.
Again, a three-step process. First, go to the USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Certification web page, register to take the on-line and successfully complete the On-Line Level I Instructor Couse. Cost $40 payable to USA Archery. It takes about 4 hours, is available 24 hours a day, and does not need to be completed all at once. Passing criteria on the exam is 75%. See link below.

This event is a perfect opportunity for young women in Scouts BSA to bond, develop new skills, and have a blast. NYLT
National Youth Leadership (NYLT) Training is the premier youth leadership development course for the Boy Scouts of America within the Longhorn Council. It brings together youth leaders from all over the council to learn and apply the skills they need to be effective leaders in their teams and units. This course draws upon the most current leadership models used by corporate America, academic circles, and successful outdoor leadership organizations throughout the country. This exciting and fast-paced training discusses team development and appropriate leadership strategies to enable teams and units to reach their highest performance level. Come experience the ultimate in youth leadership training.

Cub-O
Join us for Cub-O, North America’s biggest orienteering event! Since 1998, nearly 35,000 participants have explored, competed, and had a blast. Whether you’re tackling the challenges head-on or enjoying a leisurely hike, Cub-O is a fantastic way to teach map reading, problem-solving, and strategy.
Who’s Invited: All Cub Scout Dens, leaders, and parents. Everyone gets a contest map and a chance at awards in each age group.

Frontier Trails District Awards Banquet and Reception

Phil-A-Palooza
Are you going on a trek at the Philmont Scout Ranch in the Summer? Then you and your crew (adults and youth) are invited to the Philmont "PHIL-A-PALOOZA" program at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch, Camp 9 Dining Hall. Bring your entire crew out to hike and camp for the weekend. Use this weekend as one of your Shakedown campouts. Try out the Philmont cooking and cleaning methods.

Den Chief Training
Scouts can be valuable resources for Cub Scout Dens and their leaders. By completing this training, a Scout will be eligible to take on the role of den chief with a Cub Scout or Webelos Den. The time a Scout serves as a den chief applies toward the leadership requirement for rank advancement! This course is for Scouts First Class and above.

NRA Basic/Instructor Course for Rifle, Shotgun, RSO (Weekend 1)
Ready to become a certified NRA instructor and lead rifle and shotgun ranges for Scouts and Venturers? This is your chance to gain the skills and certification needed to become a Rifle Shooting or Shotgun Shooting Merit Badge counselor!
Training Series Overview:
Join us for an intensive, two-weekend series designed to turn you into a skilled NRA instructor. The Longhorn Council Shooting Sports Committee is offering all the essential NRA courses to get you certified.

Cost: $275 for the entire series of courses over the two weekends.
What to Bring:
- Essentials: Pencil/pen, pad, one copy each of the current Rifle & Shotgun Merit Badge pamphlets.
- Gear: A positive attitude, enthusiasm, camping gear, food, and drinks for the weekend.

Spring-O
Spring-O is now a TWO-DAY competition. Combined times from courses run on Saturday AND Sunday are used to determine the champions. Recreational courses are available for single day participants. You won’t want to miss the fun Night-O event on Saturday evening.
Choose your fun from 6 beginner to expert cross country Orienteering courses! Awards are given to the top three finishers in each category. Individual Competitors compete by age and gender. Scouts compete in 2 person Teams. Anyone can hike the course and work on their orienteering in 2-5 person Recreational Teams. You will be able to select your course on the NTOA website. Courses must be selected at time of registration.

Frontier Trails District Camporee
Bring the Troops out this year for our Frontier Trails District Camporee. Camporee will be held April 10-12, 2026 at Sid Richardson SR2 / Buchanan Springs
$12 per person, does not include meals.
Webelos can attend during Saturday for daytime only, and must be with a registered adult at all times.

National Jamboree
What’s a Jamboree? It’s not camp. National Jamboree is 360-degrees of fun, friends and fellowship with hands-on adventure that takes you places you never thought you’d go and challenge you to try things you never thought you could.
It’s the beginning of your own heroes’ journey that will challenge you to go farther than you ever thought possible. You’ll reach deeper and lift yourself higher to become the best version of yourself.
The next National Jamboree will be held at Summit Bechtel Reserve from July 22-31, 2026.
First payment to the National Service Center due May 31, 2025.

Wood Badge Philmont
Every participant and staff member must complete a Scouting America Annual Health and Medical Record – parts A, B, and C and meet height, weight, and blood pressure requirements upon arrival and be approved for participation by the on-site Philmont medical staff.

World Scout Jamboree
The 26th World Scout Jamboree is scheduled to take place from July 30 to August 8 2027 in Gdańsk, Pomeranian Voivodeship, Northern Poland.
World Scout Jamboree brings together Scouts from all over the globe for a unique celebration of unity, adventure, and shared learning. This event is one of the most anticipated gatherings in the global Scouting calendar, and it promises to be an unforgettable experience for all involved.
To participate as a Youth Participant, individuals must be between 14 and 17 years old at the time of the event. Those who are older, specifically born on or before 30 July 2009, have the opportunity to join as International Service Team (IST) volunteers. These volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth running of the Jamboree, taking on a variety of support roles throughout the event.
Adult volunteers, including those on the Contingent Management Team (CMT), must also be 18 years or older, adhering to the same age requirement as IST volunteers.
There are three ways to be a part of the USA contingent. Scouts ages 14-17 have the unique opportunity to join the contingent as a youth. Scouters may apply to be either an adult leader with the contingent or an IST (International Service Team (staff member).

Longhorn Council Aquatics Committee invites you to join us for a fun weekend of aquatic training. Training starts at 8pm Friday night and will conclude Sunday no later then 5pm. This weekend event offers two trainings in one! Saving you $20 and an entire weekend! Training is for Scouts/Scouters 15+

Cub Rangemaster Training
Cub Scout BB & Archery Instructor Training Course
You are invited to Cub Scout Range Master Training. You can get trained to run Cub Scout BB Gun and Archery Ranges at Council and District events. Shooting Sports are a major highlight in a Cub Scout's life and helping them learn a new skill is very gratifying. We hope you will consider getting trained so you can run ranges safely and effectively.
This certification is good for two years. Each session is approximately 3 hours in the morning with a lunch break, then 3 hours in the afternoon.You are invited to Cub Scout Range Master Training. Splash Bash, the ultimate summer extravaganza will be on August 8-10, 2025, at the breathtaking Sid Richardson Scout Ranch's Stripling Island. Dive into a whirlwind of heart-racing activities tailored for thrill-seeking youth aged 13 and completed the 8th grade or 14 to 20.
Embark on a kayaking expedition, conquer the currents in a canoe, soar through the air and make a splash on the colossal blob, test your balance and agility on paddle boards, indulge in invigorating swimming sessions, reel in the biggest catch while fishing, experience the thrill of camping under the stars, and harness the power of the wind as you sail and windsurf. Safety Afloat, Hazardous Weather Training, Safe Swim Defense, and YPT certification is required for all adults and encouraged for youth to take as well.

Participant Guidelines
Registration is limited to Webelos and AOL age youth and their leaders or parents. Siblings are not permitted at Webelos/AOL sessions.
The minimum leadership requirements for any Cub Scout unit attending camp is a ratio of two registered adults to a maximum of eight youth and one additional registered adult for each four additional youth (or part thereof).

All participant information is required to be entered in full by May 2, 2025, at 10:59 p.m. Beginning May 2, 2025, at 11:00 p.m. you will be required to enter complete participant information when registering. The information you will need to register is outlined at the end of this registration page.
We recommend one registration per unit if multiple people from a unit are attending the same session.
By registering for summer camp, all adults understand that Circle Ten Council will run a background check through the State of Texas. It is extremely important that you verify the correct first and last name of the adults as on their government-issued ID before registering them for camp.

Located near Tishomingo in south-central Oklahoma, Kerr Scout Ranch at Slippery Falls hosts summer camp for Troops and Crews each summer. Camp program offers many merit badges and activities with two dining halls and many up-to-date amenities. Summer Cub Adventure Camp
Participant Guidelines
Registration is open to all Cub Scouts and their families.
Tigers must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
Youth who will become lion cubs in September are not eligible to participate as a registered scout.

Webelos/AOL Camp
Participant Guidelines
Registration is limited to Webelos and AOL age youth and their leaders or parents. Siblings are not permitted at Webelos/AOL sessions.
The minimum leadership requirements for any Cub Scout unit attending camp is a ratio of two registered adults to a maximum of eight youth and one additional registered adult for each four additional youth (or part thereof).

By registering for summer camp, all adults understand that Circle Ten Council will run a background check through the State of Texas. It is extremely important that you verify the correct first and last name of the adults as on their government-issued ID before registering them for camp.

Cub Scout Day Camp
Are you ready for Adventure? Then have your Cub Scout grab their gear and join us for an awesome adventure! Not a Cub Scout? That's ok. Cub Camp is open to all boys and girls entering grades 1-5. This is a great opportunity to try Cub Scouts before joining your local Cub Scout pack.
Participants will enjoy many types of activities including archery, BB guns, field sports, nature, arts and crafts, Scout skills, and all-around FUN!
Your child does not need to be a registered Cub Scout to attend one of our Cub Camp sessions. When selecting RANK in your registration, you should use the grade that the Scout will be entering for the 2025-2026 school year.

Wolf (entering 2nd grade)
Bear (entering 3rd grade)
Webelos (entering the 4th grade)
Arrow of Light (entering 5th grade)

Summer Camp (Troops & Crews)
Located near Tishomingo in south-central Oklahoma, Kerr Scout Ranch at Slippery Falls hosts summer camp for Troops and Crews each summer. Camp program offers many merit badges and activities with two dining halls and many up-to-date amenities. Enjoy a week in the shade of our oak trees and the pristine, spring-fed waters of Pennington Creek.

Brazos River Canoe Trek

Sign-Up Alert: Be among the first to secure your Scouts’ spot for our coveted merit badge classes by signing up at 12am on April 29th. Make sure your Scouts are paid in full to grab your place!
Special Programs and Incentives:
- AOL Crossover: Transitioning to a new troop? We’ll honor the fee rate your troop earned with its registration/deposit if you camp with your new troop. Make sure the transfer is complete within 30 days of joining!
- Camperships: Need financial assistance? Longhorn Council offers in-council camperships covering up to 50% of the registration cost. Find the form under the Attachments heading and contact us with any questions!
- New Unit Perks: Newly established units in Longhorn Council get the Early Bird Rate if they register within 60 days of their charter date. Register early and save!
